How much do you know about Native American culture? The annual Arts Gumbo is coming to Seattle this October and November! Arts Gumbo 2015 celebrates Native American culture with fun entertainment and food. This year, from October 8-10, Arts Gumbo will focus on introducing the Coast Salish Canoe Tribes.
The main events at Rainier Valley Cultural Center on October 10 will feature food samples and art displays in the evening. Flute player Parul Che oke’ten Wagner, 7Generation youth Dancers, and singers will be on hand to provide entertainment. But don’t forget to participate in The dance workshop, led by the Duwamish Singling Feet Dancers, which will sure to get everyone moving on their feet.
The excitement doesn’t end there! If you want to know more about the Plains cultures, events from November 12-14-also at Rainier Valley Cultural Center should be educational and amazing. Begin with a book discussion on Black Elk Speak on November 12 followed by the Arts Gumbo featured movie-Sherman Alexie’s Smoke Signals Nov 13. For visitors who love music and dance, there will also be Southern Express Drum and Powwow Dancers waiting for you on November 14.
Both months include book chats, featured movies, and main events. Check out their schedule, share it with your friends, and mark it down on your calendar!
