Bringing together the rich traditions of the African American community, from Gospel to Hip Hop, basketball to poetry, there’s something for all tastes and ages at the Umoja Fest. While the festival draws on the past, honoring African American heritage and history through parades, song, and dance, it also keeps its eye on the future with voter registration, a health fair, an education fair, and more.
Umoja is Swahili for “peace” and the festival encourages participants to bring their families—close and extended—for family reunions and fun.
Don’t miss the Saturday parade! It starts at one o’ clock at 23rd and Union and continues on to the festival.
